I'm a 28 year old male, currently stuck in ohio, but was raised around retics, and have kept snakes since I was 6. I started with colubrids, then got into breeding balls in my early teens. From there I got into boas, Then I got into burms, and now I'm finally up into the retics like my dad, though I don't think I want to mess with all the wild caught animals that he dealt with back then. I am Currently Married and live with my 3 children. Luckily the family shares the same love for pythons that I do. :)

Hey how are you? I got the info on the retic at the Memphis zoo, Anna is 23 foot long and eats 25- 45lbs pigs, depending on what they can get. The curator got back to me this morning. I will try and get you a pic of her I know I have some on a disk somewhere.
Have a good weekend.

That is cool, I don't think I have ever heard of reptile radio. But then again, I have been mainly on fauna and ks for the past few years. The memphis zoo has a huge retic named Anna, i will try and find a pic of her and post it. She is the largest one I have ever seen. She feeds on pigs. She is phenominal. The sheer power behind her is awe inspiring.

Thanks for the info, that one is so beautiful. I know who ever ends up with it will be super happy. Do they screen the home it goes too? I always worry about someone with no experience getting them.

You are right that purple one on monsters is awesome. I can't beleive the colors. What do they normally run to purchase one like it?

I am so amazed how tame your retics are. I guess I had some bad retics and you some bad boas...lol.. My husband is so not a snake person, he will tolerate them but they are not his favorite thing and I showed him how nice that first retic was and then she got him and now it is like no retic don't even ask. I been telling him we need to enter the monster contest for the retic and he hopes I don't and if I do I don't win...lol The only other thing I have that is about as bad as the retic's are the bulls snakes they are just nasty sometimes, they hiss all the time.

I have never had a bad boa that wouldn't tame down with handling. I have a good many boas right now, surinames, columbians and dumerils and they are all pretty placid. I do agree I need to meet a nice retic, I have never seen one personally. Now I did know a guy who had a male that was pretty easy to handle good days and bad days but he was still not as predictable as boas to me. I know when these boas are going to freak on me the retics I have been around are usually just very unpredictable. I do think they are by far one of the most beautiful snakes out there.
I guess I am partial to columbians, I have had them the longest about 20 years or so. I seem to always go back to them as far as a good big pet snake.

wow, you've been on my friends list a long time and I don't think we've ever spoken? how are you?
No, we've spoken. Not much, but we've spoken. :) I'm fine. A little stressed - exams and papers are seriously putting a damper on Halloween plans, and the snakes seem to have constant bowel movements, but otherwise all's well. How about yourself?

awe yes,....lol... The spawn of satan says it all...lol.
the first female would sit on the edge of the tank and just jump at me and it really freaked my husband out. She was so laid back when she first arrived then she come out of her shell to be the hell bitch...lol. The funny thing is I took her to the vet and he couldn't beleive how wonderful she was and then when he was about to put her back in the bag, she struck and then from then on out she was really bad. I tried everything to tame her down so since i had small children at the time I just rehomed her. The suriname female I have was wild caught and she tamed down in a year, but it was a tough year, i had bought her as a captive bred and when she came in you could see the scars and she was wild caught had every parasite known to man. She is fine now 8 years later.

ah, yes. Ben Siegle Buys whole clutches and resells them. So really there's no way to say who produced them. You may have had yourself a pair of wild caughts there, or shelf babies. These guys can vary a lot. All mine are really sweet, but they all came from really reputable breeders too, like Harry Wessels from MonsterSnakes. There's some vids on my page of me working with them to give you an idea :) And they've gotten better over the past few years. Awhile back you didn't see any captive bred retics, if you saw a retic they were usually wildcaught and just spawn of satan.
