I've been a lover of snakes and herps in general since I was little, I'd bring home garter snakes, frogs, salamanders and toads, whatever I could find, and keep them until my parents made me let them go again. It was an off and on thing, seasonal at best as it was only in the summer when I'd be able to catch them.
I purchased my first pet snake in 2000 shortly after Graduation, a Mexican Black Kingsnake, which I dubbed 'Lucent'. Short for Translucent Rainbow Butterfly (don't ask :D)
Though I never really got bit by the addiction until a few years later, when I brought in a Common Boa, a rescue basically, from a man in town who'd been neglecting him and was otherwise leaving the poor snake to die a slow, eventual death. It was then that I discovered my true love. Boids. I adored them, the size, the strength, the docile nature.. so much different from my somewhat cranky kingsnake, and the fascination for them really hit home.
However, my personal love is definetely ball pythons. Ever since my friend bought one from a local petshop and I ended up getting one for myself. Within a year, that one ball python has become five and I'm definetely working on building up my collection of them as I want to try breeding, simply as a hobbyist, but who knows.. maybe one day I may enjoy it enough to do it for more than just that.
On the side, I work at my job, Fast Food (yay.. *sarcasm*), but what I really wouldn't mind doing is opening a reptile shop. A good, reputable one with beautiful, healthy animals available and Staff with the knowledge to let you know what you need to know, when you need to know it. It's a dream, but who knows.. I might get lucky one day. :D I definetely look up to the big, well known breeders and respect them completely.
