Using other people's photos
Posted On 04/03/2008 12:48:28 by boakingdom

I'm not posting this to tell on anyone or start trouble, but....

When using other people's photos....PLEASE ask for permission and post a photo credit; it's the right thinng to do

I recently noticed one of my photos on someone's profile as their "profile photo". I didn't get too upset as he was only 14 I think...but I left him this polite message:

Hello,

Your profile photo is one of my photos, it is posted on my site http://www.boakingdom.com/aztec-okee-f2-2.jpg as well as the "forum photo" for Kingsnake.com's cornsnake forum.

I have no problem with you using it, please post a photo credit below it like Kingsnake.com did... http://forums.kingsnake.com/forum.php?catid=70

Some of our photos and our inroduction statement from our website were used by someone on this site, the intro statement is word for word. I replyed to their friends request " Thanks for the add, I'm gald you like our intro statement from our website", my comment was deleted from their page.

Thanks, Rich

I agree completely. I also belong to an online photography forum and it might amaze you how often members find their photos "stolen" from there or from their own personal sites and advertised as being shot by the person who "stole" it.

It's only right (and respectful) to give the original photographer/owner credit for the picture. I like how you handled it, very professional.
