I was really looking forward to a local activity today because part of the day included a reptile exhibit/talk by a local rescue/education/breeder group. I was thinking finally some one in my area I can maybe relate to a little and maybe pick their brains and learn a little in the process.
Now, if it was me and someone came up and was interested in what all I kept, what localities and such I would be excited to share my obsession. If they said they also were in the hobby, I'd want to talk shop. Not the case, and so instead of being pushy about it, I went on my way. I did watch their presentation, and was disappointed with how they didn't seem to come across very professionally or think about how they relayed certain stories. They also gave some misinformation, which in the major scheme of things wasn't any big deal. But it is the fact that they are supposed to be the local reptile experts. After the presentation I asked for a business card and was given a card for a pet store 50 miles from here. Whats up with that?
I in no way consider myself an expert, I am just another person trying to learn and enjoy this hobby. But if that is what we have representing the hobby to the general public...I just don't know. Very frustrating for me.
