My new Pygmy Rattler

 Shannon, (crazysakelady) calls me EARLY saturday morning (well it wasnt early I just had a late night herpin) to tell me about these pygmy rattlers she found out a vendor had at the PA show. Well, at this point I had been trying to convince Reed to start keeping hots. Well, I told her to get one if she found a good price! Well, what do u know, she got me one, a sexy one at that! Shes holding onto it, letting me get super ready before it comes home. Now, all you hot keepers are probly like beh its just a pyg, well its one of my first. Everyones got to start somwhere right? I also had a friend catch me one last week thats currently being adjusted to captivity. They will both come home soon, the more I can see and interact with it, the more confident (NOT COCKY) I get with it. Im finding my zone, I do notice myself zone and totally focus on it. But its good shit, although theres only a few species of hots I want to work with, this is definetly anouther chapter in our herpin life.

We spent saturday night at shannons, we had a blast! It was also my best birthday ever, even though I wasnt lookin foward to turning 22! LOL Thank you shannon!

off my high horse huh and im not 13 im 26 and have over 30 venomous snakes including rattlers gaboons rhinos puff adders monocle cobras suphans and king cobras.  your mentor tells you to handle snakes like that ? wow i would get a new mentor its not only stressful for the snake its also how many people get bit, i have a friend that has kept hots for over 30 years and started when he was 14 and he would never tell anyone to handle a snake like that if it wasnt needed, like to help with a shed or meds.  you keep handling like that and you will get bit just a matter of time. and then they will have more reasons to ban them thanks to people free handling and making the rest of the venomous keepers that do it the right way look bad...   so maybe before you call people 13 you should know what your talking about.   good luck with your hot keeping dont get bit

It will be awhile - I have some relatives with medical compulsive disorders who visit me often, so not until I move to a place where I can have a room just for them that locks - and caging for them that properly ocks.


I also need to find a local mentor - I know a local who has hots, but even I know that particular individual really should not have them and are an accident waiting to happen (she had her first reptile, a RTB, a whole 3 months before getting her rattlesnake ...).


Well, a mentor whos been doing it a good while is MUST. I personally lucked out. Not only do I have a peer whos into hots, I have an older guy who did it for years, and really looks out for me. I really like to pick his brain too, lol.
