Bay Area Amphibian & Reptile Society

The Bay Area Amphibian and Reptile Society is an educational and conservational group of amateur and professional herpetologists who want to share their knowledge, enthusiasm, and friendship with others interested in these fascinating creatures.

The stated purpose of the Society is:

1) To encourage education and dissemination of scientific information through the facilities of the society.
2) To encourage conservation of wildlife in general and of amphibians and reptiles in particular.
3) To achieve closer cooperation and understanding between amateur and professional herpetologists so that they may work together in the common cause of furthering science.

At our meetings we feature speakers on subjects such as conservation, care and medical treatment, captive breeding, field studies, as well as many other interesting areas of herpetology. There are also workshops where people can bring their pets, relate their many experiences, and share their knowledge.

In addition, BAARS organizes and participates in a number of live shows, exhibits, and presentations. Our members have a wide variety of herps which can be seen and usually handled at our events.

BAARS general meetings are held 11 times/year on the fourth Friday of each month except November and December. The Annual Meeting and holiday party is held on the second Friday in December. Interested members of the public are welcome at all BAARS general meetings.

Meetings are held at the Cubberly Community Center, located at 4000 Middlefield Road, Building H-1, in Palo Alto (for directions, see the map ). The doors open at 7:30 PM and the meetings begin promptly at 8 PM and are usually over by 10 PM.

We assist with reptile placement and adoptions as well.
