Final dose
Posted On 10/02/2008 00:03:28 by wftright
Well, tonight was feeding night, and the big question was going to be whether Ester Lily took her final dose of Panacur. In August, the vet discovered a parasite in her stool sample and prescribed one dose a day for three days followed by one dose a week for three weeks. I tried to feed her that first week, but she refused. Everything then stopped for a week when Gustav took out our electricity. I've never tried forcing medicine down a snake's throat, and I hoped that she'd take the Panacur inje... Read More

Snake Puke

The first time I tryed to feed my newest male, Jimmy, I fed him a medium rat live.  Now don't start with all the live vs f/t stuff.  I usually feed my snakes prekilled that I kill seconds before I give it to them, but I hate waisting life.  I have an amount of respect for all life, even the ones that live to be food.  Anyway, he struck the rat and strangled it just like normal, except he missed and got bit right behind his head on his right side.  He swallowed it, and I... I recently got my female, Jenny, and I was told that she is a Black Back.  What is a Black Back?  From my research, the best answer I have come up with, is that she is a Normal with a darker back stripe.  Is this correct, or have I got something confused?  If anyone knows how to straighten me out, please let me know.  There is a picture of her on my profile, in my gallery.  Oh yeah, she is the back ground pic on my main profile page.

Anger Management

I bought a female black back about a week ago.  The previous owner told me, when he bought her from a pet shop she was trying to strike her keeper all the time.  I was also told the reason could be because she was wearing CK1.  Let me just say that she has not acted at all like she was going to strike me.  Does anyone have any experiences like this?  Can anyone confirm that balls don't like CK1?

Odd feeding habits
Posted On 09/24/2008 23:33:42 by wftright
Reptile forums have had plenty of blogs, questions, and articles about the odd feeding habits of individual snakes, lizards, turtles, and other herps. Tonight, I'll admit to my own unusual feeding habits as a reptile owner. Here is my confession.

When I had only two snakes to feed, I had an old jug that held about a gallon or so of water. I'd half-fill the jug with the hottest water I could get from the tap. I'd put each rodent in a ziploc bag. I'd try to find some way to weigh the bag... Read More
