Sinai Agamas or not?
Posted On 05/15/2008 08:55:23

So I have been doing a lot of research on our little agamas, so that I can write a good caresheet on the website. There is not a lot of information out there, if any at all, written on captive bred care, so finding information has been difficult. But I think I have run into something that I was not ready for. I think I may not have sinai agamas, but instead have pale agamas (also known as pallid agamas).

None of the pictures of the sinais I can find online really match, and the behavior and colorization of the males is different. Both seem to match the pale agamas to a T. So I believe I will be changing the website and my information here to reflect this, but before I do this, I will wait for the answer from the breeder I originally purchased them from. I asked them where they aquired the agamas, if they were WC or CB, and how they were sure they are sinais. Originally I was told they were CB by the breeder, but I am starting to wonder.

Either way I am not disappointed, as this little group is such a joy to have around! They are so much fun to watch, and their behavior surprises me for an agamid species. Most are not very friendly, but very shy and take off when they see you. These guys are at the front of the cage constantly looking for food, and will just stare at you when you come by. They do not really run away unless you are trying to handle them. I plan on starting my babies out with hand taming from the egg, so hopefully I will be able to beat that issue out. I have also found that they really do enjoy greens and fruits mixed up, which is very strange for an agamid species. I have started these guys off on a mix of dandelion greens, mustard greens, yellow squash (grated), and different berries in the mornings all dusted with plain calcium, and then crickets in the afternoon, also dusted. Usually the veggie mix is gone by the time for crickets. I find this very interesting, and a good thing, as the veggies are good for them. I also plan on starting my babies out on veggies from the egg like I do my dragon babies.

If anyone has any ideas on this whole thing, I'd welcome them. Although this project is a new one for me, the learning experience has been wonderful. Our big goal with ANY of our animals that are normally a WC species on the market is to find out more about their CB care, and to bring truely CBB animals to the market in those species. Right now, agamas are harder to find unless you want a WC animal. We want to change that at Kordek's Kritters.

The Sinai is laying!
Posted On 05/01/2008 13:05:26

I am pretty excited! I put the big girl in the laybox this morning, and so far we have 5 big eggs. I was able to snap some pics, so check out the gallery! I am not sure if she is done yet, but I am giving her time. The poor girl looks miserable! SO that means baby sinais coming in the next few months too!

Updating the website
Posted On 04/30/2008 16:50:57

Well, it has been a slow go, at least in my standards, to get this website updated. I want to do so much with it, and want it done NOW. But I guess I can't complain, I've gotten about 1/2 of it done in 2 days. So either I am determined, or have too much time on my hands. How that is possible with 5 kids, 37 herps and a wedding on Saturday I will never know!

Anyone who has comments, suggestions or any feedback at all on the site, please let me know! I am hoping to have it completed by next week, then I am onto my other project that I will be announcing...
