Murbella the GTP Biak arrived a few days ago--I'm so in love with her!! She's a pickup from Daytona but had to be shipped. She seems to be adjusting, and so am I. It's definitely trickier than keeping corns! I lover her "dragon" head! She is supposed to be 12-15 mos. old, but I've been told that she looks at least 3 or more years old, since she has lost her yellow. She was purchased from Bay Shore Reptiles. Well, I just adore her, had to share!
Visit the Bulletin area to view my two slide shows--pictures are so much better than words sometimes! I did manage to buy five snakes--a pair of ultramels with hets from Don Soderberg, a pair of keys het TERRAZO hatchlings from KJ Lodrigue, and a yearling female GTP, my first! I just hope I will have her set up properly, doing a lot of research to be sure. The best part of the weekend was meeting my fellow corn lovers/breeders and seeing the amazing varieties and colors of all the reps. The worst part was not only having to fly down and back, but both planes had problems. On the way down, a dead battery before take-off prompting a wait of 1-1/2 hours on the tarmac. Oh, and even better--on the flight back, the plane made an emergency landing in Charleston (destination was Charlotte, NC) because, we found out, one engine lost oil pressure so they had to shut it down in mid-flight! I ended up renting a car and drove the rest of the way home, a 3-1/2 hour trip. Much better than being bussed to Charlotte and then hope to get a flight home! Aarrrggghhhh....

Anerys!

Well, eggs started hatching last Tuesday, we left to go out of town for four days, returned yesterday and all eggs but one had hatched (DIE)--23 perfect little anerys!! Parents are Ghost x Snow Stripe. I'm not keeping very many, so they are going for $35 each plus shipping. Please contact me for more info.
Happy to say Luna laid 13 eggs last night (one possible slug)! They are small and more oblong-shaped than the first clutch, but appear to be good at this point. I was pretty amazed she produced that many, but she was HUGE before laying the first clutch, so she must have had lots of reserve fat or something, as she is not emaciated looking, just thinner.
Decided to breed Luna this evening to Hector, the Hypo het amel I have advertised. They mated almost immediately! Luna laid her eggs about two weeks ago, finally shed, ate Monday, and started cruising yesterday. She is looking very fit, which led me to decide to breed her again. I wonder how many eggs *this* time?
I woke up to seven eggs (so far) from Luna--she's an old pro (she's 7 years old), but I'm a newbie, so this is pretty darn exciting! See photo in the gallery! I think she has more to lay... Update: 25 eggs--!!
Good news--all tests sent to Clemson, including a second fecal, have come back negative, and she has had three separate tests for crypto, which is the protocol for testing, all negative. She's being fed once a week and last week I moved her up to a weaned mouse, which she digested perfectly, and fed a slit weaned again this past Monday (always dusted with Nutribac). So far, so good. Although her weight has gone up and down a bit, she's still gaining steadily and so far has put on appx. 40g since 3/23. I'm hoping her weight gain will be about 60g at the two-month mark. She's still thin, so think her normal weight should easily be 300g. I'll eventually move her up to an adult mouse when I think she can handle it, but that's not any time soon. Anyway, I'm encouraged!

Luna, my big Ghost girl, shed today and immediately went into her nesting box. She was bred to my Champagne snow stripe, Thoth. Keeping fingers crossed for eggs any day now!
OK, so the results came in from Clemson--NOTHING! She tested negative on all tests. Despite this, she's been put on a course of Ivermectin (.05 ml/1x a day for a week) and will continue with the Albon. I'm waiting a good while to feed her, probably early next week. She may very well have been wild-caught, it's impossible to say. Meanwhile, I have three new snakes! I purchased a 0.1 butter stripe and 1.1 anery motley/stripes from Eco-Regional in CA (see pics in my gallery). I saw their ad on Kingsnakes.com and I just couldn't pass them up. The butter stripe was $80! She is more of a vanishing stripe, so I'll have to post pics of her as she grows.
