I hate the media. I hate sensationalism! THERE'S NO GOD DAMN BURM INVASION! Thanks a MILLION for making the general public afraid of something that (a) isn't happening and (b) even if it was happening, would hardly be a cause to stay inside all day and hide from the evil snakes.
I don't watch news anymore for precisely this reason. It's not news. It's mostly human interest stories and fabricated crap.
But really, probably the most to blame in this situation is those no good pseudoscientists who wrote this "scientific" article. Nice try guys, but I think I'm going to believe a more reputable source - how about Dave and Tracy Barker? They've probably been studying snakes for, oh I don't know, a LITTLE longer than you have. And they don't really write trash articles to get money from the USGS, because they have some dignity. DIGNITY!!
Maybe it's partially the USGS's fault. They probably pay those scientists by the article. No article, no cash...
Here's the real meat on the issue: http://www.vpi.com/sites/vpi.com/files/Tympanum.pdf
Spread the word!

The same stuff that has been going through my head for weeks... and that my friends have heard a million times: Now in writing!
The expo in White Plains NY is in less than a month and needless to say I can hardly wait! My brain is scrambling to settle on something I want to aim for buying there that's in my price range and that I can accomodate. To be honest the easiest thing would be another ball, because I happen to have an extra tub and plenty of extra slots in my BP's Ranco thermostat for another flexwatt UTH.
I am still in love with carpet pythons - namely jungles and IJ's - but I might not be able to accomodate one right now. Perhaps, PERHAPS, if I see one that I really love maybe I will take it home and put it in a temporary habitat. I have also found some real lookers online from reputable breeders though. So we'll see how this goes. I really should not even be getting more animals till summer, but I have to... it's addictive! I can't go out to White Plains and return with nothing!!
Another thing I'm in love with are sand boas, but that's out of the question for now, as I don't have an appropriate tank here for them... But just
PERHAPS I might pick up a ten-gal and a bunch of aspen and house a KSB in there for awhile. I'd have to read up some more on them first.
My second reasonable option, besides a reduced pattern or pastel ball, would be the tarantula I've had my eye on for awhile. The Mexican Beauty, or Brachypelma boehmi. My first T! I'll just have to see who's there and if there are any good invert breeders around.
Man, what is this thing called "college" and "organic chemistry"? Why does it get in the way so often? I just want to go to the expo already!!
I really hope you didn't just read all of that rambling. With that, good night and wish me luck tomorrow with my 2 labs and 2 exams to study for... it's gonna be hectic.
