Display Cages only for me, from now on
Posted On 04/27/2008 09:28:14

This has nothing to do with the "display cage VS rack system" debate that forever lives in our hobby....

I've breed a LOT of snake species over the past 18+ years and produced a LOT of babies. I started with Amazon Tree Boas in glass tanks with live plants and waterfalls...added some colubrids and boids also in glass tanks....then my hobby evolved into a heated snakeroom full of racks.

After a number of years I did "full circle" back to my first love; Amazon Tree Boas in display cages. I actually switched the ATBs back to display cages while I was still breeding other stuff in racks.  ATBs to me, are just so beautiful and are the ultimate display snake, it seems a HUGE misjustice to keep them in a rubbermaid and have to open it up in order to see the snake. I've since gotten completely out of all non-ATB projects (with the exception of 1.2 Okeetees) and have my snakeroom lined with display type caging.  I work for a living, the ATBs are a hobby....I LOVE to come home, sit in the snakeroom and relax, listening to music and looking around at the gorgeous snakes!

I have nothing against racks, they're the best thing ever invented for people with large collections, when I had 100+ breeders I used nothing but racks.

Like I said....I've had my share of racks, they're great and I have nothing against them.

I drove up north to meet "dizzl" and went to the gardens while up that way...

SPRING IS FINALLY HERE!

Using other people's photos
Posted On 04/03/2008 12:48:28

I'm not posting this to tell on anyone or start trouble, but....

When using other people's photos....PLEASE ask for permission and post a photo credit; it's the right thinng to do

I recently noticed one of my photos on someone's profile as their "profile photo". I didn't get too upset as he was only 14 I think...but I left him this polite message:

Hello,

Your profile photo is one of my photos, it is posted on my site http://www.boakingdom.com/aztec-okee-f2-2.jpg as well as the "forum photo" for Kingsnake.com's cornsnake forum.

I have no problem with you using it, please post a photo credit below it like Kingsnake.com did... http://forums.kingsnake.com/forum.php?catid=70

Amazon tree boas; the new frontier
Posted On 03/11/2008 12:56:19

I've been working with ATBs almost 20 years now, I have always loved them in all of their natural colors/patterns.

I think we're just a few years away from the Amazons finally getting the recognition they deserve. Take a look at what has been going on in recent years...

Matt Lerer http://www.freewebs.com/amazontreeboas/ has produced some really extreme Amazons he calls "Candycanes" which appears to be genetic but to what extent is still unknown.

Danny Mendez http://www.urbanjungles.com/index.htm has proven the Tiger morph to be at least dominant, possibly co-dominant.

Danny Mendez, John Camp, & Jane Camp have proven the Leopard morph to be genetic.

Tom Burns acquired an albino Amazon a few years ago and will be proving it out very soon!

The ATB scene is so promising that even Kathy Love (the queen of corn snakes) is getting into them pretty seriously.

I think in future years as more and more things are accomplished via the Tiger, Leopard, & Amel morphs, they will take their rightful spot in the forefront of herpetoculture. I'm a hardcore ATB enthusiast...I love all of them from the $15 gardens to the $3K Tigers....I'm very happy to see this most amazing species finally sharing some of the spotlight
