albino emoryis
Posted On 08/03/2008 11:20:24
Although these blogs don't seem to be read very often I just wanted to write this to voice my excitement.
To quite a few out there this wouldn't be a big deal but to me it is.
I acquired five emoryi rat snake hatchlings in '05.
Four of these, two females and two males were supposedly het albino and the fifth, a male, was possibly het albino.
I finally felt they were big enough to breed this season.
To begin with the lone male that was possibly het albino refused to breed with the two creamsicle females I tried to breed him to. I guess he just wasn't ready.
The good news, though, was that when I put the two pairs of het emoryis together, they did breed.
One female laid four good eggs and the other femal laid six good eggs.
Not great numbers but not disapointing considering it was their first time breeding.
Well, the first clutch of four hatched last week and all four were normal.
This doesn't mean the parents weren't het albino it just means I will have to try again next season. Make sure they are well fed and brumated properly and see what happens. A larger clutch will obviously up the odds.
Now, the second clutch of six eggs started pipping this weekend.
So far four have hatched and of those four one is an albino!!!!
The other two eggs have pipped and of those one more is an albino!!!
These are not considered rare but are still not as common as amel corns or creamsicles.
Either way, I am happy to have these two albino emoryis and having at least one pair of the adult emoryis proven out.
So let me say this in ending WHOO WHOO !!!!!!
Thank you
