Snake lonesome...
Posted On 06/19/2008 17:22:04
With the snakes all banished to the rec room which is now just storage for the zillion moving boxes...I am feeling snake lonesome. I don't think I could ever keep my collection in an out building or anything like that. I really miss them. Of course I see them for daily check ins, feeding and such but it just isn't the same. I will be so happy when we are finally moved and I can have them back in my main space again.

I Hate Moving!
Posted On 06/08/2008 15:55:10

Sorry I haven't been stopping by anyone's pages lately. Been busy not only at work but packing boxes and getting the house ready to list. Then the chore of keeping it "presentable for showing" with teenagers and dogs in the house and keeping anyone from fainting when they look into the rec room where all the snakes have been banished to along with the gazillion boxes and misc crap should be extra fun. I REALLY HATE MOVING! I know it is a good move in the long run but I will be glad when it is all over and I can just hang out on all my favorite forums again :)

Take care

Disappointed ex-Army Mom
Posted On 05/13/2008 23:06:44

Well, I recently blogged about how proud I was of my son graduating boot camp and becoming an official Army mom.

I am not sure exactly what has happened, my son is strategically avoiding my contact attempts, but he has somehow been discharged. I am hoping it is for something like medical issues. But I just don't know. He went back home on leave and something happened.

No matter what he is my son and I am still proud of his decision to join and for making it through basic with flying colors. I just wish he could be as open about things with me as my daughters are. I guess its a guy thing.

To all you serving in the military...my thanks and prayers.

For all the family members...my hopes and prayers. (I have siblings, other family and friends serving and deployed, so I do understand what you go through and how hard it is on the entire family).

And for all of you sons and daughters...even if you screw up, tell your mom!!! She'll worry less knowing the truth than wondering what you are up to.

Major change in the collection
Posted On 05/08/2008 22:46:53

I am very excited about the addition of some new BPs to the family. My daughters all seem particularly smitten with the Pastel. Some very nice critters...Thanks Lynn.

Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to some others. Most of my corns, my Black ratsnakes, and the MBK. We have raised them from hatchlings and it was really hard to see them move on. It is nice to know they are in capable hands and will part of a good breeding program. But still makes us sad. All the people who think you can't connect emotionally with your reptiles are as crazy as they think I am. The snakes may not care (although I think they do to some extent, I know they like certain people more than others) but I know I get very attached to mine.

But, this marks one step further in our adventure.

They think I have finally lost my mind
Posted On 05/07/2008 22:45:47

My friends and neighbors that is. I have been looking up the different frog calls of the local species and trying to figure out which ones we have right here in the neighborhood. And wandering around with a flashlight in the middle of the night trying to find the little buggers. Quite fascinating to me, but the neighbors think I am nuts, lol.

Frustrated with local herpers
Posted On 04/26/2008 22:24:29

I was really looking forward to a local activity today because part of the day included a reptile exhibit/talk by a local rescue/education/breeder group. I was thinking finally some one in my area I can maybe relate to a little and maybe pick their brains and learn a little in the process.

Now, if it was me and someone came up and was interested in what all I kept, what localities and such I would be excited to share my obsession. If they said they also were in the hobby, I'd want to talk shop. Not the case, and so instead of being pushy about it, I went on my way. I did watch their presentation, and was disappointed with how they didn't seem to come across very professionally or think about how they relayed certain stories. They also gave some misinformation, which in the major scheme of things wasn't any big deal. But it is the fact that they are supposed to be the local reptile experts. After the presentation I asked for a business card and was given a card for a pet store 50 miles from here. Whats up with that?

I in no way consider myself an expert, I am just another person trying to learn and enjoy this hobby. But if that is what we have representing the hobby to the general public...I just don't know. Very frustrating for me.

The RG Groups
Posted On 03/27/2008 20:59:10

I hope no one decides to start ignoring the groups feature of this site. I know they may be a little slow going at the moment, but remember they are all new.
I never would have thought of myself as "moderator" of anything and I have actually started two groups on here-Mid South Herpers and now Women and Reptiles. I think it is a great way to find people to network with that have your specific interests or issues. Whether it be by species, country, state or gender we can narrow down information that relates to us and our personal hobby.
And we can join as many of these groups as we find something in common with and surprisingly most of us seem to have some pretty varied interests even if we usually hung out at 'that cornsnake place" or "that Ball forum".
I hope to see all of the my groups hopping with threads in the near future.

Officially an ARMY mom
Posted On 03/16/2008 22:51:36

My son graduated from basic today. I am truly sad that I was not able to attend the ceremonies, but so proud of him for making this stand.
It is very hard to know your child, my only son, is going off to face the enemies. To know that there is no longer anything you can do to shield and protect them from the world. Now he will be protecting us. It makes for some very mixed feelings.
I know however that he truly believes in his decision. That he wants more than anything to be a good American soldier. That he believes our country's freedoms are important enough to fight for.
So I want to say a big Congratulations to the next generation of soldiers. May all of our prayers be with the many sons and daughters who choose to put their lives on the line for us.
I love you Justin!
GO ARMY!!!

They're here
Posted On 03/12/2008 17:35:24

Hard to believe a grown woman can get so excited about new snakes, .
The new Indos are here and so freakin adorable! And it's so hard to not play with them. But I've been good a quick check out on delivery and show the kids as they get put into their tubs (still haven't finished the cage) and now to let them settle in.
I have been interested in getting some of the candoia carinata for well over a year now. I have read up what I could find and looked at a bunch of pics, but I have never been fortunate enough to see any in person until today. They are just beautiful and even smaller than I expected. I can't wait to get them into the bigger set up and take a few pics.
Thanks so much to Jason @Racoon River Reptiles
I think I am actually what they'd all giddy LOL
